Position: Vision Rehabilitation Therapist, full-time, salaried, with benefits, based in Presque Isle and serving Aroostook County and surrounding communities in Maine.

The Iris Network, a community-based nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with a mission of helping people who are visually impaired or blind to attain independence and community integration, seeks a Vision Rehabilitation Therapist to teach independent living skills and provide primary vision rehabilitation to adults and transition-age youth who are visually impaired or blind on an individual basis or in small groups within the client’s community. This region is primarily rural and requires significant travel year-round.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have either a
- A Master’s degree in Vision Rehabilitation Therapy (formerly Rehabilitation Teaching) and be ACVREP certified or eligible for certification – pass exam within 3 months and be certified within 6 months; or
- A Bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation Teaching with five years related experience and be ACVREP certified or eligible for certification – pass exam within 3 months and be certified within 6 months.
CVRT preferred.
Experience &/or aptitude teaching technology to people who are visually impaired or blind a huge plus.
Duties: The Vision Rehabilitation Therapist will work with people who are visually impaired or blind in assessing needs and developing a rehabilitation plan, effectively teach independent living and low vision skills including appropriate communication techniques to individuals or to small groups and to provide information on obtaining adaptive materials, provide information and counseling, serve as an advocate and make referrals to other agencies for support services, prepare and maintain case records in a professional manner, work within the requirements of contract and grant funding sources, serve as a resource, providing information and public education within the community, and participate in the establishment and implementation of department program development.
