The Iris Network, a community-based nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with a mission of helping people who are visually impaired or blind to attain independence and community integration, seeks an Assistive Technology Specialist to teach access technology to adults and transition-age youth who are visually impaired or blind on an individual basis or in small groups in The Iris Network Rehab Center or in the community, as needed.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation, Teaching or related fields with three years related experience and be ATACP (Assistive Technology Application Certification Program), CATIS, RESNA or ACVREP certified or eligible for certification.
Duties: Some of the responsibilities of the Assistive Technology Specialist are: working effectively with people who are visually impaired or blind in assessing needs and developing a rehabilitation plan; providing introductory, intermediate, and advanced computer assessment and training on Windows, Mac, iOS and android platforms; providing introductory, intermediate, and advanced assessment and training on computer tablets and on smart phones; devising and implementing Assistive Technology lesson plans designed to meet individual participant goals; teaching Assistive Technology skills to individuals or to small groups; working as a part of the Rehab team; developing purchase proposals for computers, peripherals, assistive technology, and additional training needs; serving as a resource providing information and public education within the community, assisting in the community education effort in an effort to identify unserved and underserved clients and serve as an ambassador for the agency and its mission.
